Sarah was born in December 1878 in Aspull.¹

Birth Notes

Sarah's father was John Mather and her mother was Elizabeth Heald. Her paternal grandparents were Richard Mather and Mary Leigh. She had five brothers and four sisters, named Richard, Samuel, Edward, Henry, John, Mary, Maria, Elizabeth and Ruth. She was the third youngest of the ten children.
