  • In 1774, the marriage banns of William Mather and Mary Aldercoft were published, showing both were from Astley.  They married 26 May 1774.
    
    In 1775, Betty was baptised the daughter of William Mather of Astley (1 mile S of Tyldesley)
    
    In 1778, Joseph was baptised at St Stephen's Astley, and the abode is recorded as Tyldesley.
    
    In 1780, Edward was baptisd at Westhoughton
