Richard Mather

Richard was born in March 1861 in Birkenhead.¹

Richard's father was John Mather and his mother was Elizabeth Heald. His paternal grandparents were Richard Mather and Mary Leigh. He had four brothers and five sisters, named Samuel, Edward, Henry, John, Mary, Maria, Elizabeth, Sarah and Ruth. He was the oldest of the ten children.

  11 Jul 1881, Richard Mather (20) a collier, son of John Mather a labourer married Rachel Teesdale (18), daughter of Jonathan Teesdale, a collier at Haigh and Aspull Parish Church.
  
  In 1885, The family must have been in Northumberland, where Maria was born.
  
  In 1891, Richard & Ann J (30 & 38) were at Westhoughton with Richard Riley (13), Margaret Mather (10), Mary E Mather (8), Maria (6) and Daniel (4)
