Sarah was born on June 28th, 1817 in Salford and her baptism took place on September 18th, 1817 in Manchester.1  Sarah's father was Joseph Mather and her mother was Ann Livsley.  Her paternal grandparents were Abraham Mather and Hannah Dale. She had four brothers and three sisters, named Thomas, George, Joseph, George, Mary, Elizabeth and Anne.  She was the oldest of the eight known children.
