Samuel Mather

Samuel was born in August 1848 in Bolton and his baptism took place on August 13th, 1848 at St. Peter & Paul RC Church (Bolton).¹²

Samuel's father was Lawrence Mather and his mother was Jane Ward. He had a brother and five sisters, named John, Agnes, Mary, Mary, Elizabeth and Jane. He was the second oldest of the seven children.

- in 1848, Samuel was born in Little Bolton. He is the only child of Lawrence and Jane to survive infancy.
  
  In 1851, Samuel, born Bolton and birth registered in Little Bolton, was aged 2 with both parents at 10 Back Kay Street, Little Bolton.
  
  In 1861, Samuel was 13 with his mother Jane (39) at 9 Waterside, Bolton. Both were factory operatives.
  
  Samuel's mother Jane remarried in 1865, and by 1871, Samuel was not with her.
