Rachel was born in June 1840 in Darwen.1  Rachel's father was Thomas Mather and her mother was Phoebe (Feby) Duxbury.  Her paternal grandparents were William (Will) Mather and Betty Beswick. She had four brothers and a sister, named William, John, Thomas, James and Nancy.  She was the youngest of the six children.

‌Rachel and Henry were married in a religious ceremony on July 3rd, 1858 at St. Mary-the-Virgin (Blackburn).2   The family line is yet to be completed.
