Nancy's father was Thomas Mather and her mother was Phoebe (Feby) Duxbury.  Her paternal grandparents were William (Will) Mather and Betty Beswick. She had four brothers and a sister, named William, John, Thomas, James and Rachel.  She was the second youngest of the six children.  She died at the age of 30 in December 1867 in Blackburn.²
