Molly was born in 1799 in Darwen and her baptism took place on June 8th, 1799 at Over Darwen Lower Chapel conducted by H W T .1  Molly's father was Thomas Mather and her mother was Ellen Chambers. She had five brothers and five sisters, named Will, Henry, John, Thomas, John, Betty, Hannah, Ellen, Nanny and Alice.  She was the third youngest of the eleven children.
