Hannah was born in 1782 in Darwen and her baptism took place on January 6th, 1782 at Over Darwen Lower Chapel conducted by Reverend Robert Smalley.1  Hannah's father was Thomas Mather and her mother was Ellen Chambers. She had five brothers and five sisters, named Will, Henry, John, Thomas, John, Betty, Ellen, Nanny, Molly and Alice.  She was the third oldest of the eleven children.
