John Mather

John was born on July 31st, 1786 in Darwen and his baptism took place on September 17th, 1786 at Over Darwen Lower Chapel conducted by Reverend Robert Smalley.¹

John's father was Thomas Mather and his mother was Ellen Chambers. He had four brothers and six sisters, named Will, Henry, Thomas, John, Betty, Hannah, Ellen, Nanny, Molly and Alice. He was the fifth oldest of the eleven children. He died about 1795 in Darwen.
