Mary was born in 1786 in Westhoughton and her baptism took place on March 12th, 1786 at St. Bartholomew (Westhoughton).1 2  Mary's father was Robert Mather and her mother was Jane (Jenny) Sale.  Her paternal grandparents were Thomas Mather and Mary Mather. She had four brothers and two sisters, named Thomas, Lambert, John, Richard, Betty and Catherine.  She was the oldest of the seven children.  She died at the age of 78 in December 1864 in Westhoughton.  She was buried on December 31st, 1864 at St. Bartholomew (Westhoughton).3 3

‌Mary and Adam were married in a religious ceremony on February 8th, 1807 at St. Mary (Deane) by Vicar Richard Latham and witnessed by Alexander Coop.4  They had two sons and four daughters, named William, Adam, Catherine, Ann, Mary and Margaret.  There are possibly more children.
