Thomas' father was Robert Mather and his mother was Jane (Jenny) Sale.  His paternal grandparents were Thomas Mather and Mary Mather. He had three brothers and three sisters, named Lambert, John, Richard, Mary, Betty and Catherine.  He was the fourth oldest of the seven children.
