Mary was born in 1755 in Bolton and her baptism took place on June 6th, 1755 at St. Mary (Deane).1  Mary's father was John Mather and her mother was Mary Meadowcroft. She had four brothers and three sisters, named John, Richard, John, Jeffery, Lettice, Alice and Martha. She had a half-brother and a half-sister, named Jeffery and Betty.
