Alice was born in 1758 in Bolton and her baptism took place on March 8th, 1758 at St. Mary (Deane).1  Alice's father was John Mather and her mother was Mary Meadowcroft. She had four brothers and three sisters, named John, Richard, John, Jeffery, Lettice, Mary and Martha. She had a half-brother and a half-sister, named Jeffery and Betty.
