Jeffery's father was Thomas Mather and his mother was Isabella Anderson.  His paternal grandparents were Jeffery Mather and Mary Hampson. He had a brother and three sisters, named William, Mary, Frances and Elizabeth.  He was the second oldest of the five children.  He died at the age of 59 in August 1870 in Manchester.²

‌Jeffery and Martha were married in a religious ceremony on November 13th, 1836 at Manchester Cathedral.⁴   They had two sons and three daughters, named Thomas, George, Mary, Frances and Martha.  There are no more children.
