Mary was born in 1814 in Manchester and her baptism took place on January 2nd, 1814 at Manchester Cathedral.1  Mary's father was Thomas Mather and her mother was Isabella Anderson.  Her paternal grandparents were Jeffery Mather and Mary Hampson. She had two brothers and two sisters, named William, Jeffery, Frances and Elizabeth.  She was the third oldest of the five children.

‌Mary and William were married in a religious ceremony on December 9th, 1838 at Manchester Cathedral.2   The family line is yet to be completed.
