Elizabeth was born in September 1860 in Little Hulton.1  Elizabeth's father was John Mather and her mother was Betty Edge.  Her paternal grandparents were Geffrey (Jeffery) Mather and Catherine Gregory. She had three brothers and two sisters, named Edward, Robert, William, Catherine and Mary.  She was the third youngest of the six children. She had two half-brothers and a half-sister, named Robert, John and Louisa.
