Elizabeth's father was James Mather and her mother was Fanny Nuttall.  Her paternal grandparents were Samuel Mather and Betty Walker. She had two brothers and five sisters, named George, Samuel, Fanny, Esther, Alice, Sarah and Mary.  She was the third oldest of the eight children.  She died at the age of 3 in 1841 in Tottington.¹
