Catherine was born in August 1841 in Prescot and her baptism took place there on August 4th, 1841.1 2  Catherine's father was William Mather and her mother was Margaret Sim. She had three brothers and three sisters, named Charles, William, John, Elizabeth, Mary and Ellen.  She was the second oldest of the seven children.
