Betsy was born in 1880 in Atherton.1  Betsy's father was Edward Mather and her mother was Betsy Morris.  Her paternal grandparents were John Mather and Ellen Farnworth. She had four brothers and five sisters, named William, John, James, Edwin, Mary, Francis, Mary, Jane and Ellen.  She was the second youngest of the ten children.
