Alice was born in June 1839 in Manchester.1  Alice's father was Richard Mather and her mother was Sarah Ashworth.  Her paternal grandparents were Samuel Mather and Betty Walker. She had four brothers and two sisters, named Samuel, John, Thomas, William, Betty and Mary. She had an adopted sister named Sarah.  She died in June 1839 in Manchester.1
