Alice's father was Thomas Mather and her mother was Margaret Tyldsley.  Her paternal grandparents were Charles Mather and Alice Lever. She had four brothers and three sisters, named Charles, William, James, Thomas, Mary, Alice and Elizabeth.  She was the fourth youngest of the eight children.  She died as an infant at the age of 1 in October 1840 in Bolton.  She was buried on October 26th, 1840 at St. Peter's (Bolton).^1 2
