Abraham was born in July 1763 in Haslingden and his baptism took place there on July 6th, 1763.1  Abraham's father was Abraham Mather and his mother was Anne Barns.  His paternal grandparents were John (Old Hatter) Mather and Martha Mather. He had five brothers and a sister, named John, James, Abraham, Thomas, William and Anne.  He was the youngest of the seven children. He had a half-sister named Sarah.
