John was born in June 1744 in Haslingden and his baptism took place there on June 14th, 1744.1  John's father was Abraham Mather and his mother was Anne Barns.  His paternal grandparents were John (Old Hatter) Mather and Martha Mather. He had five brothers and a sister, named James, Abraham, Thomas, William, Abraham and Anne.  He was the oldest of the seven children. He had a half-sister named Sarah.  He died at the age of 1 in November 1745 in Haslingden.  He was buried on November 8th, 1745 in Haslingden.2 1
