Anne was born in 1758 in Haslingden and her baptism took place there on October 28th, 1758.1 2  Anne's father was Abraham Mather and her mother was Anne Barns.  Her paternal grandparents were John (Old Hatter) Mather and Martha Mather. She had six brothers named John, James, Abraham, Thomas, William and Abraham.  She was the second youngest of the seven children. She had a half-sister named Sarah.
