Mary's father was Joseph Lewis and her mother was Elizabeth Williams.  Her paternal grandparents were John Lewis and Mary; her maternal grandparents were Samuel Williams and Ann Millington. She had four brothers and three sisters, named Joseph, Thomas, William, Ben, Ann, Anne and Elizabeth.  She was the oldest of the eight children.  She died at the age of 21 in 1843 in Neston.³
