William's father was Richard Ledsham and his mother was Ann Lucas.  His paternal grandparents were Benjamin Richard Ledsham and Mary Sellers; his maternal grandparents were Richard Lucas and Elizabeth Chancelour. He had a brother and five sisters, named Richard, Sarah, Mary, Ann, Martha and Hannah.  He was the fourth oldest of the seven known children.  He died at the age of 63 in 1815.  He was buried on May 19th, 1815 in Chester.
