Martha's father was Jonathan Isherwood and her mother was Margaret Bentley.  Her paternal grandparents were William Isherwood and Mary Hardman. She had four brothers and eight sisters, named William, Lawrence, Jonathan, Henry, Jane, Mary, Ann, Sarah, Margaret, Selina, Rachel and Louisa.  She was the youngest of the thirteen children.
