Mary's father was Thomas Hopley and her mother was Jane Shone.  Her paternal grandparents were Thomas Hopley and Cicely (Cecilla) Johnson. She had four brothers and three sisters, named William, Thomas, Richard, Owen, Martha, Anne and Jane.  She was the second oldest of the eight children.  She died at the age of 22 in February 1814 in Tilston, St Mary.  She was buried on February 26th, 1814 in Malpas.¹
