Jane's father was Thomas Hopley and her mother was Jane Shone.  Her paternal grandparents were Thomas Hopley and Cicely (Cecilla) Johnson. She had four brothers and three sisters, named William, Thomas, Richard, Owen, Mary, Martha and Anne.  She was the second youngest of the eight children.  She died at the age of 20 in February 1826 in Broxton.  She was buried on March 13th, 1926 in Malpas.²
