Thomas was born in 1764 in Hampton and his baptism took place on March 9th, 1764 in Malpas.¹

  When Thomas married Jane Shone he was of Bickley (same place)
  
  WARNING: There is another Thomas Hopley of Malpas, son of Charles and Mary, baptised 6-Sep-1765. I may have these two mixed up, although that Thomas appears to have died, aged 6.

Thomas' father was Thomas Hopley and his mother was Cicely (Cecilla) Johnson. His maternal grandparents were Johannes Johnson and Cicely Rimmer. He had three brothers and two sisters, named John, William, Joseph, Mary and Elize. He was the fifth oldest of the six children. He died after June 1841 in Malpas.

  In 1841, Thomas aged 80 was living with his son William at Chowley (detached from the township of Cuddington)
