Richard was born in 1878 in Little Bolton and his baptism took place on February 13th, 1878 at Bolton Holy Trinity.1 2  Richard's father was John Edmondson and his mother was Rachel Mather.  His maternal grandparents were Henry Mather and Sarah Blackburn. He had five brothers and three sisters, named John, John, James, William, Thomas, Sarah, Mary and Ann.  He was the third oldest of the nine children. He had a half-brother named John.  He died as an infant in May 1878 in Little Bolton.  He was buried on May 26th, 1878 in Bolton.3 1
