Marie's father was Thomas Henry Davies and her mother was Ellen Elizabeth Brereton. Her maternal grandparents were John Brereton and Elizabeth Manley. She had a brother and a sister, named Joseph and Helen. She was the youngest of the three children. She had a half-brother and a half-sister, named Harry and Elsie. She died at the age of 83 in 2008 in Middlesbrough.
