Helen's father was Thomas Henry Davies and her mother was Ellen Elizabeth Brereton. Her maternal grandparents were John Brereton and Elizabeth Manley. She had a brother and a sister, named Joseph and Marie. She was the second oldest of the three children. She had a half-brother and a half-sister, named Harry and Elsie. She died at the age of 68 in 1989 in Devon.
