John was born on June 29th, 1868 in Barrow and his baptism took place there on December 31st, 1868.1 2  John's father was Benjamin Darlington and his mother was Jane Brereton.  His maternal grandparents were Thomas Brereton and Martha Hughes. He had two brothers and four sisters, named Benjamin, Job, Mary, Annie, Martha and Mary.  He was the oldest of the seven children.





John's family with Rosa Brereton

‌John and Rosa were married in a religious ceremony in June 1895 in Tattenhall.4  They had three sons and four daughters, named John, Frank, Lea, Annie, Edith, Rosa and Mary.  There are no more children.
