Joel was born in December 1850 in Lindley.¹

Birth Notes

Joel's father was John Crosland and his mother was Mary Davison. His paternal grandparents were Ard Crosland and Phoebe Drake. He had three brothers and two sisters, named Sam, Tom, Luther, Phoebe and Clara. He was the second oldest of the six children. He had two half-brothers and two half-sisters, named John, Lewis, Lucy and Ann.
