Ard was born in March 1783 in Lindley and his baptism took place on June 8th, 1783 at St. Peter (Huddersfield).1 2  Ard's father was Edward Crosland and his mother was Hannah Mason. He had seven brothers and two sisters, named James, John, Benjamin, John, Joseph, Edward, Edy, Nanny and Hannah.  He was the eighth oldest of the ten known children.  He died at the age of 69 in March 1852 in Huddersfield.  His burial was in April 1852 in Highfield (Independent).3 4
