Ard's father was Edward Crosland and his mother was Hannah Mason. He had seven brothers and two sisters, named James, John, Benjamin, John, Joseph, Edward, Edy, Nanny and Hannah.  He was the third youngest of the ten known children.  He died at the age of 69 in March 1852 in Huddersfield.  He was buried in April 1852 in Highfield (Independent).^3 4
