Edward was born in 1780 in Lindley and his baptism took place on January 3rd, 1780 at St. Peter (Huddersfield).1  Edward's father was Edward Crosland and his mother was Hannah Mason. He had seven brothers and two sisters, named James, John, Benjamin, John, Joseph, Ard, Edy, Nanny and Hannah.  He was the fourth youngest of the ten known children.
