Ephriam's father was Abraham Collings and his mother was Sarah Ann Asten. His paternal grandparents were Abraham Collins and Ann Mather. He had four sisters named Mary, Elizabeth, Amelia and Sarah. He was the third oldest of the five children. He died at the age of 8 in April 1871 R Rossendale. His burial was on April 15th, 1871 in Newchurch in Rossendale.³
