Mary was born in 1762 in Oldham and her christening took place on June 1st, 1762 at St. Marys (Oldham).1 2  Mary's father was Benjamin Buckley and her mother was Sarah Ogden.  Her paternal grandparents were James Buckley Jnr and Sarah Cooper. She had four brothers and two sisters, named Joseph, Josiah, Benjamin, John, Anne and Ann.  She was the oldest of the seven children. She had two half-brothers and two half-sisters, named James, Abraham, Sarah and Betty.
