William's father was Thomas Bromilow and his mother was Ann Mather.  His maternal grandparents were John Mather and Betty Woodward. He had six brothers and three sisters, named Joseph, John, John, Thomas, James, George, Betty, Catherine and Ellen.  He was the third youngest of the ten children.  He died as an infant in March 1855 in Little Hulton.²
