Mary was born in 1789 in Stapeley and her baptism took place on July 19th, 1789 in Wybunbury.1  Mary's father was Samuel Brereton and her mother was Jane Whittingham. She had five brothers and five sisters, named John, Constantine, James, George, Thomas, Jane, Ann, Martha, Betty and Hannah.  She was the fifth youngest of the eleven children.
