George was born in April 1825 in Bridgemere and his baptism took place on April 1st, 1825 in Wybunbury.1 2  George's father was James Brereton and his mother was Hannah Morrey.  His paternal grandparents were Samuel Brereton and Jane Whittingham. He had five brothers and three sisters, named James, Thomas, John, William, Daniel, Mary, Elizabeth and Ann.  He was the third youngest of the nine children.
