Sarah was born in 1824 in Tonge-with-Haulgh and her baptism took place on January 25th, 1824 at St. Peter's (Bolton).1  Sarah's father was James Booth and her mother was Mary Shippobottom.  Her paternal grandparents were Thomas Booth and Ann Openshaw. She had three brothers and three sisters, named William, James, Thomas, Mary, Ann and Elizabeth.  She was the youngest of the seven children.
