Thomas was born in 1761 in Turton and his baptism took place on November 1st, 1761 at St. Peter's (Bolton).1  Thomas' father was Thomas Booth and his mother was Catherine (Kat) Holt. He had four brothers and two sisters, named James, Henry, William, Isaac, Catherine and Mary.  He was the oldest of the seven children.
