Ellen's father was Richard Booth and her mother was Catherine Whalley.  Her paternal grandparents were Edward Booth and Betty Chadwick. She had four brothers and five sisters, named Thomas, Richard, Adam, Adam, Alice, Alice, Elizabeth, Peggy and Jane.  She was the youngest of the ten children.
