Jane was born in March 1860 in Manchester.¹

Birth Notes

Jane's father was Andrew Bentley and her mother was Jenny (Jane) Mather. Her maternal grandparents were James Mather and Rachel Hamer. She had three brothers and three sisters, named Henry, Andrew, James, Ellen, Ann and Alice. She was the second youngest of the seven children. She had a half-brother named Abel.
