Elizabeth was born in 1895 in Bolton.1  Elizabeth's father was Joseph Allen and her mother was Agnes Gregson.  Her paternal grandparents were John Allen and Ellen Crank. She had six brothers and three sisters, named Joseph, Richard, Thomas, John, Albert, Sydney, Martha, Mary and Agnes.  She was the seventh oldest of the ten children.
