Mary Susan was born on March 6th, 1849 in , Lawrence County, Missouri, USA.1 Mary Susan's father was Richard Shipley and her mother was Julinda Windom. Her paternal grandparents were Richard SHIPLEY and Henrietta HUGHES. She had five brothers and two sisters, named William Preston, Benjamin Rush, Reuben Richard, Joseph Douty, George, Nancy Ann and Sarah Elizabeth. She was the third youngest of the eight children. She had two half-brothers and four half-sisters, named Johnnie W., Eddie, Ellen Jane, Hannah Rettie, Lulla May and Etta Eliza. She died at the age of 61 on April 16th, 1910 in , Wayne County, Iowa, USA. She was buried in Cunningham Cemetery, , Wayne County, Iowa, USA.2 2 General Notes
Mary Susan Shipley was born the 6th of March, 1849 in Lawrence County, Missouri, USA the sixth child of Richard Shipley, Jr. and Julinda Windham/Windom. She moved with her family to Eddyville, Mahaska County, Iowa, USA by the 14th of June, 1862 when her mother died. She married George Washington Garton the 20th of January, 1870 in Wayne County, Iowa, USA.
Note: Her obituary says her family arrived in Iowa in 1856 but her brother George was born in Missouri in 1859.
