Joseph was born on February 1st, 1802 in Logan Co, KY.1   Joseph's father was Charles Pouley Poley and his mother was Elizabeth Rowland.  His maternal grandparents were Joseph Rowland and Catherine Dobbins. He had two sisters named Mary Ann and Pauline. He had six half-brothers and three half-sisters, named Jefferson R., George Washington, James A., William Rowland, Benjamine J., Isaac R., Mahala, Malinda and Elizabeth.  He died at the age of 64 on August 16th, 1866 in Sangamon Co, IL.1
